Welcome to Focali

Focali (Forest, Climate, and Livelihood research network) is a Swedish research network focusing on forest / bio-energy, climate change and poverty issues. Several Swedish universities and institutions are represented in the network. The purpose is to contribute to the provision of relevant knowledge to Sida and other Swedish authorities for the effective use of forest operations to achieve climate-poverty targets. Focali also aims to increase the flow of relevant information between scientists, industry, government and civil society.

Register for the Agri4D Conference 25-26th of September

Register no later than the 16th of September. This year´s theme of the annual conference is: Agricultural Research Towards Sustainable Development Goals. Focali is one of the co-organizers of the conference together with Agri4D, SIANI, SLU Global, SLU, Future Forests and Future Agriculture. The conference is held at SLU in Uppsala.

New Focali brief about biofuel production and indirect effects of land-use change

This Focali brief is based on a written response, made by the brief authors, to the Swedish Ministry of Enterprise, Energy and Communications. This due to a consultation process opened by the ministry about the proposed changes in renewable energy directives presented by the European Commission.

Forests and trees - essential for food security on a landscape level

Today, on the International Day of Forests, Focali and SIANI publish the brief “Forests and trees – essential for food security on a landscape level”. The brief is written jointly by the two networks as a contribution to the upcoming FAO conference “Forests for Food Security and Nutrition” that will be held in May 2013.
