Invitation to Focali-LUCSUS Workshop on Forest conservation, agroforestry and livelihoods

The workshop will be held in Lund the 10th of June 2014. The workshop will be an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to share information about current research and projects with each other and with a wider range of research and policy stakeholders interested in agroforestry. During the workshop we will discuss the potentials and limitations of agroforestry as a means to support forest conservation, increase productivity and address livelihoods challenges.

PhD course: “Restoration of degraded semi-arid landscapes – Livelihood, Livestock and Land use”

The course, held in Nairobi and West Pokot in Kenya, will be linked to a new research platform “the Triple L initiative” involving SLU, ICRAF, ILRI and universities in Sweden and Kenya. Travel expenses are covered for PhD students from SLU and PhD students from East Africa.

Article by Focali researchers about ”emission omissions” published in International Innovation

In the article the Focali researchers Madelene Ostwald, Martin Persson and Sabine Henders describe their efforts to improve understanding relating to the phenomenon of carbon leakage from displacement of agricultural and forestry activities. The three researchers are involved in different research projects related to climate change, land use change, forest conservation, carbon leakage and emissions embodied in trade e.g. the “REDDleaks” project.
