Associate Senior Lecturer in Forest Management at the department for Forest Ecology and Management, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Umeå.
Background:
Rosa holds a Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Leeds, M.S. and B.S. in Forestry and Natural Resources from Purdue University, and postdoctoral training at the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. She has worked in collaboration with and as a consultant for The Nature Conservancy, World Wildlife Fund, Center for Global Development, and Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR). Rosa has lived and worked extensively in Peru, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Malaysia and is now turning her attention to Africa—Mozambique, Kenya, and Ethiopia.
Research focus:
Rosa’s research covers many aspects of tropical forest management. Her work aims to find tangible solutions for global challenges (e.g., restoration and climate change mitigation) that work from the bottom-up. She is an expert in modeling forest carbon dynamics and potential impacts of different forest management activities and excels at bring lofty visions to reality.
She recently completed a large collaborative effort to estimate the potential for reduced impact logging (RIL) to reduce carbon emissions across the tropics. Rosa is now partnering with EcoInnovation Foundation to bring the Good Wood novel timber processing business concept to life!
