Matilda Palm
Post-doc at the Department of Energy and Environment, Chalmers University of Technology
Focus areas:
Matilda’s research focuses on the intersection between land use, agriculture, climate and conservation throughout the tropics. She is interested in human transformation of the landscape and the consequences for the climate, biodiversity and other ecosystem services. She has assessed this from a variety of directions. Her background as a physical geographer (PhD) has given her a natural science approach based on experimental design, empirical data collection and analysis. After retrieving her PhD, covering land use and climate change policy with a focus on forest based options in a local context, she has actively been searching for multidisciplinary research environments where additional qualitative methods and approaches has been added to her toolbox.Current and past work:
Recently Matilda was a awarded research grant from Formas and Sida, This implies research funding for four years, whereof one year will be spent at Columbia University with Professor Ruth DeFries and four month at ICRAF (World Agroforestry Centre). The research project builds on Matilda previous research on agroforestry and restoration of degraded land. The project will start in the September 2014.
Matilda is currently doing her post-doc at the Department of Energy and Environment, Chalmers University of Technology.
The major part of the post-doc she have the ability to conduct independent research. However, beside the post-doc she is also involved in the research project “Land use and forest within international climate policy – global and local possibilities and risks” funded by the Swedish Energy Agency. Prior to that she was doing a short term post-doc at the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) in Hanoi, Vietnam. In 2006 she was working as a junior forest consultant at EcoSecurities, one of the leading carbon credit developer and broker company.
