Research focus area
Harith's main interests are species distribution and conservation and he expects that his PhD can help conservation in Mozambique by screening the country for important areas of genetic storage.
Ongoing projects
He started his PhD in 2016 on the biodiversity value of the inselberg forests of Northern Mozambique.
Background
Harith is a Mozambican biologist, did his Bachelors and Masters in Portugal at the University of Aveiro. Then returned to Mozambique to lecture at Lúrio University. He lectured for 3 years and then was appointed to be the head of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the same University. Besides his lecturing and managing responsibilities he never interrupted his research, which was mostly the inventorying of amphibians and reptiles across the whole country. He is also the author of 10 books, divided in Children’s Environmental Education books, School National Curriculum books and Science Communication books. His research also culminated in the publication a some papers, which includes species descriptions of amphibians and reptiles in Mozambique.
