Doctor Göran Berndes
Göran is a associate professor of Physical Resource Theory at Chalmers. He is active in Focali’s research about land use and bioenergy.
Göran’s research concerns the societal use of energy and materials, in particular the use of biomass for food, energy and materials purposes. Important focuses have been land use issues and climate change mitigation strategies in the transport and energy sectors, involving long-term energy system modeling; systems analysis (e.g., WtW and LCA, LUC effects) and materials/energy flows analysis at scales ranging from case studies to the global perspective; bioenergy and C sink systems characterization regarding climate benefits, land and water resources requirements, socioeconomic aspects and potential interactions (e.g., competition and displacement vs. integration) with other land and biomass uses. The research is multidisciplinary, involving for example agronomy, soil science, plant physiology, ecology, economy, policy analysis, and technology assessment.
