Associate Professor Fariborz Zelli

Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science, University of Lund.

Background:

Fariborz holds a Ph.D. in international relations from the University of Tübingen and an M.A. with honors in political science, sociology and environmental studies from the University of Heidelberg. He received the outstanding Ph.D. thesis award of the University of Tübingen and the award for outstanding teaching performance of the state of Baden-Württemberg.

Focus area:

For years, negotiators have struggled to reach a new global deal to tackle climate change in the context of UN climate negotiations. At the same time, the climate problem is governed by a variety of other international institutions dealing with topics as diverse as biodiversity, international trade and security. The Formas-funded NAVIGOV project, which is directed by Faribroz, seeks to generate novel insights into the shape, causes and consequences of this institutional complexity for three key areas: geoengineering, reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD) and short-lived climate pollutants. Based on these insights, the NAVIGOV project seeks to develop approaches to mitigate conflicts and enhance synergies among institutions.
