The sustainable growth of cities depends on a reliable supply of clean water. Many cities increasingly experience too much or too little water or water with too much silt, exacerbated by deforestation and climate change. Restoring and protecting forests in cities watersheds can contribute to more balanced water flows, secure water supplies and cleaner water.
Presentations will be followed by a facilitated discussion focusing on the opportunities for the protection and restoration of forested watersheds. How can sustainably managed forests compliment infrastructure for water supplies? How can local and regional stakeholder dialogues contribute to governance systems supporting the sustainable growth of cities and their surrounding landscapes? How can cities better capitalize from the linkages and interactions between forests and water?
