Secure tenure rights to land have for a long time been recognized as one of the most important requirements for ensuring an efficient, equitable and sustainable management of land and other related resources. Yet how to achieve this in practice through land tenure reforms remains a much debated issue, especially in regions such as sub-Saharan Africa where the overwhelming majority of farmers still lack formal rights to land. This challenge will be discussed in an open LARRI seminar by Professor Stein Holden from the University of Life Sciences in Ås, Norway.
The presentation by Professor Holden will be based on the recently published book Land Tenure Reforms
in Asia and Africa of which he is a co-editor. The introductory chapter to the book can be downloaded at
the CLTS homepage.
