In October 2014, the UN Committee on World Food Security (CFS) requested HLPE to conduct a study on "Sustainable Forestry for Food Security and Nutrition". A draft report was presented in May 2016, followed by an open e-consultation as well as an external expert peer review to seek inputs, suggestions, and comments, before finalization and approval by the HLPE Steering Committee.
After the launch at FAO, there will begin a policy convergence process based on the findings of this report, aiming to develop a set of policy recommendations on forestry for food security and nutrition. These recommendations will be negotiated over the July–September period, and presented for endorsement during the CFS plenary session, October 9th–13th.
