The workshop will focus on local level experiences of mitigation and adaptation to climate-related risks, and the policies and institutions affecting local capacity for such mitigation and adaptation. People are experiencing increasing frequency and intensity of climate related hazards like floods, storms and drought, threatening livelihoods and food security. However, policies and institutions for natural resource management do not always support local capacities to reduce vulnerability to such risks or adapt to changing conditions. Current institutional frameworks guiding land use, production and natural resource management are often divided by sector; e.g. they are decided separately within the agricultural and forest sector. The workshop will bring together people with interests in exploring cross-sectoral and landscape-oriented approaches to land use- and natural resource management in order to meet the challenges of climate change. The workshop will explore experiences of how local institutions for resource management integrate efforts of mitigation and adaption to climate change, and discuss the implications for livelihoods, landscape and differentiated capacity to adapt.

Expected outcomes: Concrete outcomes of the workshop are expected to be a policy brief and an application to organize a larger workshop on these issues in South/Southeast Asia. We also hope that the workshop will stimulate all of us participating to identify common interests, possible collaborations and research gaps.
Organizing committee: Malin Beckman, Andrea Nightingale (SLU researchers & Focali members), Margarita Cuadra (SIANI - SLU-Global Communicator), Maria Ölund (Focali & SIANI-Focali Theme Coordinator.)
