Lisa Westholm PhD candidate in rural development at Swedish Agricultural University (SLU), will co-organize a panel on gender, climate change and forests at next year’s IUFRO forestry congress in Freiburg, Germany. The theme for the 2017 congress is “Interconnecting Forests, Science and People”. The Congress provides a platform for the exchange of scientific knowledge across all scientific disciplines relevant in forest research and is open to all scientists regardless of their current affiliation to IUFRO.
The panel “Gender, climate policy and the future of the forests” (#200) co-arranged by Westholm will be held under the congress theme 6 “Social Aspects for Forests and Forestry”. Examples of questions to be discussed in the panel:
- In what way is forest and climate policy gendered and what does that mean for the future of our forests and societies?
- What are the similarities and differences between how gender and forests are governed in the global south and north and their implications for global environmental governance?
Contact Lisa Westholm for more information about the panel or read more here.
More about the Congress:
The IUFRO 125th Anniversary Congress in Freiburg will not only celebrate the accomplishments of the past. It will also establish a dialogue on the future of forestry and forest research. These discussions will focus on globally pressing topics such as how to enhance the contribution forest research will need to make towards mitigating climate change, conserving biodiversity, providing water, creating income and employment, and improving the quality of life. Issues such as how changes and disruptions in society and technologies are likely to impact on forests and people in the future will also be discussed.
Deadline for Submissions: 15 December
