In a new policy brief from SEI Focali researchers Javier Godar and Toby Gardner look at why deforestation policies in Brazil, after a decade of success, are now stalling. This brief continues to propose new strategies for decision-makers to yet again increase the effectiveness of forest conservation.
Focali researchers release working paper "Trading Forests: Quantifying the Contribution of Global Commodity Markets to Emissions from Tropical Deforestation" with Center for Global Development.
In the article the Focali researchers Madelene Ostwald, Martin Persson and Sabine Henders describe their efforts to improve understanding relating to the phenomenon of carbon leakage from displacement of agricultural and forestry activities. The three researchers are involved in different research projects related to climate change, land use change, forest conservation, carbon leakage and emissions embodied in trade e.g. the “REDDleaks” project.
Focali researcher Sabine Henders successfully defended her PhD thesis on deforestation and land use displacement at Linköping University the 27th of March.
The Focali researchers Jenny Friman and Per Knutsson will present a poster at the World Congress of Agroforestry in India 10-14th of February. The poster is based on research findings, from their ongoing research about the role of trees for climate change adaptation in the Burkina Faso parklands.
Eskil Mattsson has together with the geography student Sara Lindström written an article about forest cover change in relation to small scale farmers in Sri Lanka. The article is published in the journal Applied Geography.
