Scholars and practitioners have repeatedly called for more and better impact evaluation of conservation policies. This new PLOS collection of articles "Measuring Forest Conservation Effectiveness" brings together a series of studies that evaluate the effectiveness of tropical forest conservation policies and programs, such as protected areas, forest law enforcement, payments for ecosystem services, certification, and community-based forest management.
Focali member Göran Berndes, Associate Professor Chalmers, is the lead author of a newly published European Forest Institute report that provides insights into the current scientific debate on forest biomass, carbon neutrality and climate change mitigation. It draws on the science literature to give a balanced and policy-relevant synthesis, from both an EU and global perspective.
Focali member Torsten Krause has written a policy brief within Focali’s thematic collaboration with SIANI. In the policy brief “Building partnerships with forest communities” Krause compiles strategies for establishing effective partnerships with local communities who use or own forest land.
New article co-authored by Focali member Åsa Kasimir published in Biogeosciences. Through a PhD project by Hongxing He funded by the Swedish Energy Agency performed at the department of Earth Sciences at the University of Gothenburg, they show that forest production on drained peat soil is a large source of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere.
New article co-authored by Focali member Göran Berndes and the Focali Project Coordinator Maria Ölund published in GCB Bioenergy. The article is based on a systematic review with the aim to analyze the state of knowledge about how the production of bioenergy resources affects sustainable development.
New article co-authored by Focali member Göran Berndes published in Biofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, 18 March 2016. The work contributed to a three-year project within IEA Bioenergy on Mobilization of sustainable bioenergy supply chains.
